Since early retirement I have become more involved with the Oadby & Wigston Lions Club. President in 2013/2014, in June 2013 helped setup the South Wigston food bank, with over 650 people on our books and 20 volunteers, also helped setup the Oadby food bank. Member of the Emergency Food Partnership group, linking city and county food banks for best practice. Member of Oadby Stakeholder group, this gives me an insight into whats happening locally and where possible to get involved.In November 2014 honoured for services to the community from the Mayor of Oadby & Wigston. In May 2015 set up basic cookery lessons for our food bank customers, teaching them to eat more healthily. Also in 2015 setup Facebook page for British Shoe Corporation, with regular updates of the British Shoe demolition, arranged exhibitions of BSC in October 2016 and March 2017, attracting over 1000 people, held at BBC Radio Leicester, with radio and TV coverage. Now part of a multi agency group working and supporting asylum seekers. February 2020 became director of Wigston framework knitters museum garden with a group of volunteer gardeners. All in all life in retirement has been hectic and challenging, but enjoyable, it has given me the opportunity to help the less fortunate in my community, we can all make a difference, just try!.
