Did you know there is only one Body Corporate Commissioner in the world – and for over 5 years, that was me?I am a thought leader for the strata sector. I provide a unique perspective on solving body corporate issues. As Commissioner, I saw just and heard just about everything in strata, so am is rarely surprised by the breadth or type of problems out there. My view: there is a solution - and a constructive one at that - to every strata problem. That approach comes from my background. For over 2 decades, I held senior roles in Queensland’s public sector, with considerable experience in drafting legislation, policy development and the workings of Cabinet and Parliament. I have an Honours degree in Communications and value the importance of the right words and language in strata situations. I combines these experiences in trying to resolve strata issues and give parties confidence, without the need for legal proceedings. I am a trained mediator, well-known public speaker and media commentator on strata issues. I speak at strata conferences and forums Australia-wide and works with related industry sectors, such as the real estate sector. In my spare time, such as it is, I am also President of a community legal service on Brisbane’s north side, enjoy watching the Brisbane Lions and can sometimes persuaded by the charms of a well-made cocktail.Fun fact: I am also an occupier (the word used to describe a tenant in strata in Queensland) in a community titles scheme and have been for several years, in addition to being an owner in a different strata scheme. So I know about the vagaries and nuances of strata from all sides. I am also a human slave to Ernest (pictured), a happily-retired former racing greyhound. Ernest has all the necessary strata approvals. You will see him pop up here from time to time in his various, regal poses. I founded Strata Solve because I wanted to achieve a positive difference in the way things operate in the strata sector. I am not a lawyer and have nothing against them (no, really!). I also know that sometimes legal proceedings will be the only way to address a strata situation. That said, I think there are often different and better ways to get results.
