Policy Attorney
Policy Attorney with the Technology & Civil Liberties Project of the ACLU of Northern California, responsible for ensuring the protection and enhancement of individual rights and civil liberties in the context of emerging technologies.Significant responsibilities and accomplishments:Led strategic advocacy efforts to protect individual rights and remedy bias and inequity in the context of emerging technology. Drafted and analyzed policy proposals, negotiated with key stakeholders, designed and carried out public education campaigns, and presented oral and written testimony on behalf of ACLU and coalition partners. Developed grassroots-oriented campaigns to empower individuals and local communities, including materials that led to nationwide efforts to regulate the use of face recognition and other surveillance technology by local law enforcement agencies. Authored amicus briefs and argued before courts in various cases related to technology and civil liberties, including successful advocacy before the California Supreme Court to place limits on electronic search conditions for juveniles on probation. Expanded ACLU visibility in the technology space through presentations at conferences including SXSW Interactive, DEF CON and Enigma and at events hosted by the FTC, FCC and UNESCO.
