Senior Developer/Architect - Savvy Apps - May 2019 - Oct 2020 - Bloomington IL (remote)Client: PressPlay⌁ Designed and implemented back-end for “Portals” - a 24-hour game experience which gave away $250,000 in cash prizes. Written in Node.js, Google Cloud Functions and MemoryStore (Redis). App was designed to support over a million concurrent users, including a metrics-driven waiting-room.⌁ Rebuilt server-side game engine for “Orbz” game, a simple skill game where players won cash prizes. Built in Node.js using WebSockets. Deployed via Google App Engine. New version supported far more users on 1/6th of the hardware.⌁ Led our Node.js team through several rounds of improvements, including linting, unit testing, integration testing, and CI/CD via Github Actions. ⌁ Combined multiple Node.js apps into a monorepo using yarn workspaces.⌁ Designed and implemented a queue-based data sync between Slots and Sweepstakes apps. Used Node.js, and Redis/Bull. Allowed users to use one account across both apps.⌁ Fine-tuned performance of the MongoDB database for two Node.js apps. Ultimately scaled up from 3k users to over 200k users in testing.Client: Levi Strauss & Co⌁ Replaced a legacy thick-client app with a web app to organize garments. Led a cross-discipline team, designed the back-end and front-end of 3 apps used to design and organize collections of garments. Front-end built in Vue.js, rendered 3D models of garments using Three.js.⌁ Created a “Secure CDN” to serve large 3D models and textures using AWS CloudFront and Lambda@edge. Used Node.js and Okta. Configured CloudFront to allow authenticated access to assets and APIs without CORs overhead.⌁ Created new “Bill of Materials” app front-end to replace a legacy system. Built from scratch in Vue.js. App was highly interactive, allowing designers to drill around between various related garments and materials. Featured a drag and drop editor to quickly apply materials and colors at various levels of the bill.
