I've been involved personally in health and fitness since I can remember. I would use dumb bells in the morning when I was 6, while my mum was watching air aerobics and it's been a a part of my life on and off ever since.When I was 17, I started Jeet Kune Do, the mixed martial art Bruce Lee founded and after three years, found Systema, the Russian martial art the special forces still train in today. I was training both for about a year before the Jeet Kune Do classes moved to a location that was a bit too far for me.In the 16 or so years since then, I've continued the Systema training with about a years worth of complimentary MMA training to boot.I got my cert 3 and 4 in fitness 4 years ago, studying out of Meadowbank TAFE. It was the first time I was introduced to a commercial gym, oppose to working out at home or the parks like I'd been. It was interesting, to say the least. The industry was only then starting to see the benefits of natural human movement. Complicated, multi-plane compound movements, which I'd been subject to for all of my training in Systema, seemed to be an afterthought in the teaching.After finishing the TAFE course, I got a job at Movement Republic, in Pyrmont. A boutique movement studio, a literal playground built for adults, where I honed my skills as a teacher and a performer. The quality of the classes I was teaching was set to the highest standards of care. I learned how to spread my attentiveness and focus evenly in a 6 to 10 person class, involving teaching clients complicated skills, as well as motivating them to push themselves physically.I also had the opportunity to teach various corporate group training classes and demo the skills we taught in the classes as street performance.When covid came around our studio was shut down and now I am teaching one on one in outdoor locations. I was there for 4 years.
