Part of a team responsible for all environmental monitoring tasks at Emergent's Lansing campus. This includes critical utility sampling and testing (i.e. Water, clean steam, clean compressed gas, compressed nitrogen). Test methods included total microbial count, total organic carbon, endotoxin, total and free chlorine, and conductivity. Creating and maintaining a state of environmental control in all controlled clean room areas via regular sampling and testing of surfaces was the other major duty of the EM department. Along with these primary responsibilities, which I became proficient in during my tenure, we also were responsible for many related functions such as tracking and trending of results, quality systems tasks, and continuous improvement. I found myself particularly engaged and fulfilled working on these quality system and continuous improvement tasks.During the COVID-19 pandemic, I volunteered to go on special assignment at Emergent's Baltimore location. There, I took a leading role on a multi-national deviation triage and investigation effort. In this effort, I personally triaged and dispositioned 55 protocol deviations in just 23 weeks, along with training and assisting many other deviation writers from multiple countries. This was my first true remote role as well, and I discovered levels of productivity and focus I had never experienced before in an office. This became a true keystone experiance in my career and has guided my career path ever since.

Part of the team responsible for the operation of the Guinea Pig Bioassay test for Emergent's flagship anthrax vaccine "Biothrax". Much of the work was conducted in a Biological Safety Level 2 laboratory and within Biological Safety Cabinets both in controlled and uncontrolled environments. A significant portion of this role was to carry out quality systems tasks such as CAPA, change control, and protocol deviations.

Within my first month at Neogen I became the Senior technician in a team of three working in an ISO 9001 environment. Our responsibilities were to conduct ELISA-based assays for allergen and mycotoxin detection on samples sent to us by customers. During my tenure I took a leading role in building a LIMS system from the ground up, worked in a team to create ISO documents for 17025 accreditation, Led the transition from paper to electronic inventory management, troubleshooted and solved several environmental contamination issues, served as the primary trainer for three new employees, and won an extra mile award.

As a Field Organizer, I was responsible for the campaign's field operation in three counties in the south central Upper peninsula of Michigan. This involved volunteer recruitment, phone persuasion calls, use of NGP VAN software, door-to-door canvassing, and coordinating a GOTV campaign.

After college, at the age of 22, I tried my hand at professional politics by running in the Democratic primary for the Michigan State Senate 38th district. Despite having no money, I was able to get my message out relatively well and received 5,300 votes, only 146 less than my opponent in the primary.

IR-4 is a private-public partnership which analyses herbicide and pesticide residue longevity on small-market crops. In this part-time position I was responsible for lab maintenance activities such as sample preparation, dishwashing, and paperwork organization and filing. This role ran concurrently with my college workload, but I was offered to come back shortly after graduating to work in compliance and report reviewing while searching for full-time work.
