Dec 2018 - PresentCoxwold, North Yorkshire, UkI finally made it to retirement back in the UK and close to my kids and grandkids.Thanks to each and every one of the brilliant, talented and amazing people who worked alongside me, educated me, supported me and managed me and tolerated me over the years. I would love to thank you individually, but I owe so much to so many people that I'm afraid that in a career dating back to 1970 at British Steel that I might overlook one or two of you.Now I can concentrate on brewing beer, baking bread, cooking curries and trying to remember how to play the guitar, plus enjoying much more time with Elaine and my family and exploring North Yorkshire, the UK and Europe.

Lots of really interesting and satisfying challenges - emulating DB2 transaction semantics for COBOL stored procedures in SQLCLR, emulating DB2 stored procedure result set sematics for COBOL stored procedures in SQLCLR, converting DB2 SQL to T-SQL either at compile time for static SQL or at runtime for dynamic SQL, using server cursors with block fetches in ADO to optimize COBOL application performance, implementing user impersonation for CICS and JCL applications running under Micro Focus Enterprise Server, writing additional OpenESQ runtimes for OCI and JDBC and continually reworking ODBC and ADO runtimes to optimize performance and provide consistent semantics across DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MySQL, and more. -
