I am an experienced Data Scientist and Data Science Manager. I'm interested in hearing about Data Science and management opportunities. In my previous role, I was a Product Science Manager (R&D Data Scientist) at Indeed. I led a machine learning initiatives around fraud detection, company-wide revenue forecasting, code review automation, and post hire analytics. I managed mixed teams of engineers, data scientists, and analysts.Prior to that, I worked at Civitas Learning, where I led the R&D efforts for data science applications for higher education institutions. In my academic career, I conducted supercomputer simulations in the field of computational astrophysics. At Civitas, I managed the data science product research and development team. I led the innovation and development of our Illume Courses product, and our resulting research was featured in the New York Times: http://nyti.ms/2jYV4tX , and spearheaded the redesign of our flagship Illume Students product. In addition, I worked closely with the teams that managed our production machine learning models to ensure data quality, model accuracy, and positive customer experiences through powerful insights. I worked predominantly with Python and SQL. My focus was building functional product prototypes, coordinating with user testing and education teams, and collaborating with the product and UX to test and prove out product ideas quickly. From my astronomy background, I have experience in code development for large-scale simulations of astronomical phenomena, analysis of TB+ sized data sets, parallel and serial algorithmic optimization, executing simulations across over 1000 distributed processors, and teaching. This work was conducted using C, C++, Fortran 90, Python, and IDL.My coursework includes undergraduate and graduate coursework involving C, C++, Java, Python, Fortran, IDL, ML, Assembly, Mathematica, LabVIEW, and MATLAB. Coursera Data Science and Machine Learning coursework with hands-on experience with SQL and Pandas.

Data ScientistFreelance Mar 2022 - Feb 2024El Paso Matters: Conducted the data cleaning and analysis of the El Paso District Attorney's prosecution records using custom Python tools. Worked with journalists on Freedom of Information Act requests and data presentation. This data was the first evidence cited in the petition to remove the DA, which ultimately led to her resignation.Conducted data retrieval, cleaning, and analysis on police resignation records in El Paso Police Department for El Paso Matters using custom Python tools. Identified that female officers are substantially more likely to quit that male officers. Dino Poker:Consulted on algorithmic and UI design for the Dino Poker equity calculators. Worked with the team to determine the ideal algorithm, and iterated with team on efficiency improvements realizing 1000x+ speed improvements in common calculations. Provided UI testing and feedback.Investment Consulting:Wrote custom Monte Carlo simulations in Python simulating real-world scenarios as consultation for a private investment. Identified the counter-intuitive result that these investments were incredibly likely (80%+) to lose money. These simulations were later repeatedly proven true by subsequent real world results, and investors saved tens of thousands of dollars avoiding these losses, due to my analysis.

Product Science ManagerIndeed.Com Aug 2017 - Mar 2022Austin, Texas, UsManaged mixed teams of Data Scientists and Engineers to drive analytics and product improvements.Winner of two company innovation awards for leading projects:- Hired Signal Collection and Application: created a new team to collect post-hire data for the first time at Indeed. Worked with teams and executives to utilize this data in metrics, KPIs, A/B tests, and machine learning. Data was used to make C-level, company wide decisions.- Automated Code Reviews - Designed a machine learning model to efficiently identify low-risk code changes so they could automatically skip labor-intensive review steps. Worked with engineering teams across the org to achieve trust, gain buy-in, collect feedback, and assist with workflow integration. Increased code deployment velocity by 100k+ hours annually.Other projects:- Led team designing the first NLP model at Indeed designed for automated message fraud detection using BART NLP package. The model ultimately prevented millions of spam and fraudulent messages from being sent annually with a 99.9%+ accuracy.- Led company-wide revenue forecasting modeling during Covid-19 epidemic. Our models were able to project revenue 6 months out within 1% margin of error, and were used to quickly and accurately drive executive level decisions around budgeting. Prevented unnecessary layoffs during what turned out to be a period of booming growth for the company, as predicted by our models. -
