Active as a grandad to eight grandchildren, also as an active member and past Hon Secretary of my college's alumni association - the City & Guilds College Association. Also served for 22 years as Chair of its charitable arm, the Old Centralians' Trust

Initially as Offshore Study Engineer for John Brown Engineers & Constructors Limited (later Kvaerner John Brown and Aker Kvaerner), then Project Engineer on refurbishment projects for London Underground Limited (Central & Northern Lines). Subsequently employed by Lawrence Allison Services Ltd (LAS - later Ellayess Limited), and contracted out by them to Tubellines Limited as a Project Manager on re-development of three London Underground lines - Jubilee, Northern & Piccadilly. Ellayess was bought from Kvaerner by Aker Kvaerner in about 2006, and later adopted the name 'Aker Advantage' within the Aker Solutions Group, based in Norway.

Design and oversight of electrical installations for housing, factory units, commercial facilities (including a major computer suite). Technical liaison with third party consultants & contractors concerning power distribution and management at the main water treatment works for the new city. Managed technical aspects of a radio system for voice and data communications for one of the earliest 'dial-a-ride' public transport operations.

Maintenance management of electrical power utilisation and instrumentation installations in chemical works and limestone quarries. Operation, switching and maintenance of high voltage power distribution systems up to 33kv.
