Technical Manager/Architect - Cloud Integration & Core Services

Technologies: Azure Cloud; Service Bus, Event Grid, API Management, Function Apps, Logic Apps, Cosmos, Redis Cache, SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL, Traffic Manager, Front Door, Azure Data Factory, App Insights, App Services, ASP.NET, .NET Core, WebAPIs, MVC, SPA, Azure ADO, DevOps ARM templates, CI/CD, Git, SonarQube, Artillery.ioLead the effort to standardize on Azure capabilities such as the Azure Service Bus, API Management, Logic Apps, Function Apps. Worked to standardize DevOps ARM template structures, CI/CD pipelines, incorporating unit tests, integrated tests and SonarQube for static code analysis. Worked to standardize proper performance/stress testing using artillary.io for all core APIs.Lead the microservice architecture initiative, worked with dev partners to design and build out our new Enterprise Service Platform v3 (ESP3) framework. This framework incorporates all boilerplate functionality required to build new REST APIs. This includes a double security gate; permission to access the API then scopes to determine which operations the client is authorized to invoke. As part of this new service paradigm, I worked to standardize having all APIs surfaced thru Azures API Management gateway (APIM). This provides an additional security layer using the subscription key as well as all the other benefits of APIM such as rate limiting, throttling, policy injections for request and response.Lead the effort to port existing enterprise core services over to Azure and our new microservice architecture. Services include Authentication, Authorization, Registration, Profile and Segmentation.Lead effort to design a new person microservice leveraging a high performance CQRS pattern. The challenge with this effort is that there is an existing monolithic database that's been around for almost 20 years and has organically grown to include several application data models. There are several legacy systems and processes that write to that DB.

Technologies: .NET Framework 2.0, 3.5, 4.0, C#, ASP.NET, MVC3, Razor, WCF 3.5, 4.0, SOAP, REST, BizTalk 2002, BizTalk 2006, Commerce Server 2007, SQL 2000, 2005, 2008, MSMQ, SharePoint 2007, DNN, Lucene.NET, Solr 4.6, ZooKeeper, Exhibitor, Java, CentOS Linux, SVN, SmartLogic Semaphore Suite.Designed and built a distributed Enterprise Search system, leveraging WCF MSMQ/TCP bindings, Linux based Solr cluster running with Zookeeper and Exhibitor. The crawl engine dynamically discovered crawled properties and allowed for mapping to a set of user defined managed properties. A set of content adapters (plugins) were used to communicate with their respective sources. The engine supported index replication across multiple search nodes and was fully multithreaded to maximize throughput using an internal producer consumer mechanism. The crawl process was integrated with a 3rd party taxonomy/classification system called SmartLogic. Classification would leverage internal heuristics along with a PMI taxonomy to return search optimized tags.Designed and built PMI's Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) called the Enterprise Service Platform (ESP). This design leveraged advanced WFC extensibility points which included message interception, out of band security, auditing, standardize error messaging and REST protocol.Designed and built a WCF Service Host platform to host our WCF services. Using this service host allowed PMI to use all available service bindings; netMsmq, TCP, NamedPipes. This was back when we were running on IIS6 and the only available binding was HTTP. The service host was designed to plugin each WCF service with AppDomain isolation. The windows service host had internal health checks with auto healing, a distributed cache and a command bus exposed as an API to allow an admin UI to manage each service on the bus individually.

Client: Millville Rescue Squad [2005-2006]Technologies: .NET Framework 2.0, ASP.NET 2.0, C# 2.0, SQL 2000, MSMQ, Sockets The Medical Transport System (MTS) application provides nurses and emergency dispatch crews the ability to request medical transports for patients. The system is designed to recommend the best mode of transport based on branching logic (using an N-ary decision tree structure). MTS also integrates with South Jersey Hospital Systems mainframe via a secure VPN tunnel. When the dispatcher performs a patient search, MTS sends an HL7 formatted request to the mainframe via the tunnel. The mainframe then sends an HL7 formatted response containing the requested information. A windows service handles the parsing and transformation of the HL7 formatted data. Once a transport request is submitted it is then sent through another integration layer which inserts the transport into RightCAD, the Millville Rescue Squads main ERM system.Designed and built the Medical Transport System from the ground up utilizing best practices in OO design and development. The application was built using ASP.NET 2.0 along with C#, and a SQL 2000 backend. MSMQ is used to correlate a mainframe request back to the web user who initiated it via a CorrelationID.Built the “Integration Engine” windows service to handle the parsing and transformation of the HL7 formatted request / response data. This service acts as an integration bridge to the hospitals mainframe system. It utilizes socket level communication to communicate with the mainframe. The window service was designed in a very extensible model in which new plug-ins can be built to provide additional parsers, transformations, and data adapters.

This system was an enterprise class extensible orchestration engine with pluggable parsers and transformations. This was used to shuttle inbound EDR documents into the loan system from external partners.[Won an innovation award for the BizTalk like orchestration system from Diamond Technologies]• Designed and built an enterprise class high performance distributed messaging fabric leveraging MSMQ, .NET and Window Services. This included designing and building a messaging router cluster with failover and failback capability. Two router nodes could be setup in active/active or active/passive mode. A socket based heartbeat performed the health check between the nodes. There were three modes of load balancing built in. Round robin, weighted and dynamic where a set of performance stats were configured to monitor downstream message processors with relevance weights applied. The dynamic process would calculate the sum of weighted averages to determine least loaded node.Client: Diamond ECHO TeamTechnologies: J2EE 1.4, EJBs 2.1, JMS, JMX, JBoss 4.x, XDoclet, Hybernate, IngresSQL"ECHO" is a multimodal notification system with the first release supporting Email and Non-Interactive voice and future releases encompassing Interactive voice and Instant Messaging.• Designed the loosely coupled system to break out the delivery engine from particular vertical industries.
