Responsible for assisting with various new plans and associated exercises. Looking at humanitarian issues which involves assisting with the update of the County's Evacuation centres and identifying new potential venues. Also involved with a new town/coastal area evacuation plan and the associated multi-agency co-ordination group. Added to this I am also involved in the construction of an exercise scenario and again working with multi-agency partners in doing so. Am also assisting the team using my knowledge of GIS and presentations. Have gained a good understanding of working in a multiple district environment with each district having various needs and specifications.

Working and assisting in a high-pressured fast paced environment where day-to-day routines are constantly changing. Attended a range of different meetings as part of the CPU including the Core Cities Emergency Planning meeting, Flood Resilience meeting, SAGE meeting and the Corporate Resilience Group meeting. Also gained a good experience of minute taking at these meetings with these minutes then forward across the country to different CPU units. Gained good report writing and professional skills whilst undertaking set tasks for the CPU. Gained an understanding into Emergency Planning and Business Continuity documents and what bye laws and key components are needed within them. I am also responsible along with the CPU manager for planning and establishing the Community Places of Safety emergency scheme within Bristol CPU. This included identifying locations, identifying key components, visiting the locations, providing multi-agency training, constructing media releases and designing information for numerous public sectors. This role involves a large amount of community involvement and promoting community resilience as part of it. I am also about to start helping with the council coastal shoreline response plan.

Working in a high-pressured environment whereby I am the demonstrator/instructor in GIS and Remote Sensing for several different classes. These classes include 3rd year and Masters students with a wide variety of skills and experience. Developed lectures and practical’s for all levels of students along with constructing and marking coursework exercises. Kept accurate attendance and coursework records of all students. Gained an appreciation of team management and individual working responsibilities. Worked to tight time-scales when creating and marking exercises. Dealt with students in a friendly and professional manner. Gained an increased knowledge and skill set in GIS and GIS tools including software such as ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine Ecognition and Socet GXP and tools/techniques such as digitizing, model builder, Lidar analysis, python and hydrology.
