Working within Sydney Train’s Maintenance Reform Division, I led and advised on capacity and productivity using a team of seven contractors to evaluate the performance of 900 staff across 12 depots. Our focus was to improve work practices, reduce operating expenditure, bottlenecks, duplication and risks to staff safety. Key achievement: I was able to build trusted relationships with a heavily unionised and disgruntled blue-collar workforce. Demonstrating my ability to influence without authority, I realised a 30% FTE reduction, without negative union actions, whilst still gaining key intellectual property for the depots.
