• Upgraded a DB2 database to Oracle. This project involved transferring historical data and upgrading a sales and ordering reporting application.o Cross-functional collaboration: 1) supporting database in Oracle; 2) ETL (extract/transform/load data) was done largely in IBM DataStage 11.3 and directly on source files in Unix with scripting; and, 3) writing optimized SQL in Oracle 12.o Reduced processing times by 99.44%, reducing load times of data from 90+ hours to slightly under 2 hours, eliminating the use of an expensive 3rd party solution.• Prototyped upgrade of warranty reporting application. Upgraded from ETL using DataStage 7.5 and Oracle 11 to combining both processes in Hadoop Hive. Largely a solo project that was my introduction into distributed data.o Converted our complex transformations from Oracle SQL to HiveQL (Hive Query Language).• ETL (extract/transform/load) Development - Multiple projects creating, upgrading, and maintaining large data systems that support millions of clients, parts, billions of sales per year, and management of historical data.• Report Development - Developed analytical reports on application performance with IBM Cognos Analytics. Supported the development of a predictive application that suggests quantity and location needed for replacement parts.o Used mathematical and statistical models to monitor (performance and validate) the app that reported to our manufacturing, aftersales, and finance teams. o Focused on data organization and visualization to briefly and convincingly determine if midstream intervention with human input should be entered in the model based on non-historical factors (e.g. market shifts, new/competing replacement parts, new cars, and regional employment/income).• Supported each development project from charter and requirements gathering/planning through user testing and warranty. Also, supported legacy applications, familiarizing myself with older development platforms, OS’s, and databases.

Developed methodology to model the first-generation transition from high school to college. Designed longitudinal study on the effects of environment and culture on first year outcomes through exhaustive interviewing, organizing focus groups, and then coding and organizing data between all first generation honors students at UT.Published paper dealing with first-generation college students in honors programs, retention, and the first-year experience.

Helped build a Dept. of Energy physics lab.Managed and maintained the inventory of the lab with a budget of $1.5 million from a DOE grant.Participated in many cross-country professional conventions to present research.Conducted research at a national laboratory in superconductivity, using cryogenic materials (3He and LH2).
