Reporting to the Executive Board of UK Commercial Banking, I lead a team of 30 people nationally, undertaking a programme of testing that checked process ‘effectiveness’ across a population of 1,000 Relationship Managers. The BSA programme formed a key part of the Commercial Banking ‘Control Environment Certificate’ – part of the Groups external risk reporting. My role was to:- 1 - Ensure robust, reliable and trustworthy testing was delivered and reported to time and quality in key areas of risk 2 - Drive the necessary improvement across the population of relationship managers through root cause analysis and coaching structures and to challenge Policy and Process where needed3 - Trend analysis and Stakeholder management to ensure consistent corrective action and key learnings were driven through the business 4 - Plan the future strategy and evolution of the programme to ensure the testing was appropriate in terms of the areas of risk it covered and also the methodology used The testing was subject to validation by an independent source. Within 3 years, I helped the Commercial Business move from having no testing programme, to having a mature Risk Based programme reported on a future proof platform with compliant results in all 5 Policy areas tested.

Reporting to the Managing Director for London and South East, I was lead the risk management across the Regulatory, Operational and Reputational Risks of the business - reporting to the Board monthly. The busiest, most complex and risk diverse Commercial business within the UK. My key responsibilities were:- - Managing the daily territory issues (frauds, customer/Staff reputational risks, exits, AML referrals, legal issues etc..) - Being the ‘eyes and ears' for the MD in all Risk Issues, escalating issues when and where appropriate- I also undertook Risk Assessment/Risk Taxonomy work and ran national Risks, scoping and fixing known issues

Within the Groups wider programme, initiated to drive and improve the Banks Credit Rating, I developed and launching a national programme of testing across Commercial Banking, known as Business Self-Assurance - a programme of self-testing that would check knowledge and application of knowledge by Relationship Managers in the key areas of risk to the bank (effectiveness of process and procedure adherance). Successful roll-out and handover to BAU - Responsibilities included ensuring completion deadlines met, detailed analysis and reporting of results to the Commercial Board. Clear presentation of results and emerging trends/issues was needed, together with recommendations on what remedial action is needed to improve. Stakeholder/Relationship management at exec level was a key requirement.

I successfully managed portfolios of Bank customers, growing by acquisition and organic growth to achieve mutual bank/customer objectives. From 2007 my attention focussed on specialising in the Healthcare market with a specific focus on Social Care, but also covering Primary, Charities and Pharmacies. My portfolio grew to become high value with c.35 customers generating significant income per annum. My role centred on:- - Business in the £1-25m turnover range - Routine, complex or structred borrowing needs - Deposits - Specialised financial products and services to meet customer needsI was responsible for some key bank relationships in Londond and the South East each with complex borrowing needs ranging between £10-£25m. Gained promotion to first tier management with sole responsibility for a portfolio of c.75 customers that produced the bank with income of c.£1m per annum. As a relationship manager I was responsible for controlling/monitoring the bank’s risk and exposure relating to my customer base. I was targeted to protect and grow the banks income and customer base via providing needs based products/facilities for my customers, and increasing share of wallet via introducing other bank products.
