Founder & Directorhimmelzimmer is an architecture practice based in Melbourne Australia, and now Brighton UK, working locally and around the world. The studio is dedicated to investigating an architecture that evolves from a continuous dialogue of imaginative and practical thinking.As a studio we need to be able to define what building/design we aspire to the most:For us this is ‘a room in the sky’, a ‘himmelzimmer’. From its open window we can see the endless sky encouraging us that our ideas should be dream-like without boundaries. With its window closed we can focus on the work on our desk in front of us, the technical delivery of our ideas.All our designs evolve from the dialogue of these two perspectives which are both essentialin the delivery of well-executed buildings that inspire and transcend the ordinary, creating spaces that provoke thought and meaning to peoples lives. Our work is at its most successful where our window to the world is in a constant state of in-between, where it is simultaneously closed and open.

Working on a broad range of projects ranging in size from individual dwellings and extensions right through to masterplanning new resorts and design new hospitals, my architectural project experience grew extensively whilst at studio505, as did my appreciation for quality detailing, the importance of story-telling and the consultants with whom you work to help realise your ambitions. The team with whom I worked were incredible and helped to shape the joy I found through these early years in my career. I was proud to be a part of a studio which concentrated on design through exploration and development of ideas backed by conceptual rigour, which were then applied to all areas of architecture and interior design.

Designed and detailed a number of luxury residential projects for planning applications and building regulations approval. Gained a high level of exposure to the necessary processes and management required to implement and execute successful projects. Developed existing experience of construction detailing and site supervision.

Employed to develop a world class 4000m2 Sports Pavilion for an international client from feasibility through to schematicdesign. Responsible for the full set of schematic drawings as well as the timely production of a comprehensive design report. Additionally, established the composition, design and materiality of the architectural façade and proposed an overlay scenario for when the site was hosting sporting competitions.

Managed a number of smaller projects at different stages, from initial feasibility through to producing drawings for tender.Conducted site surveys, liaised with clients and adapted communication and management skills to suit my increasedresponsibility. Produced a strategic master plan for a local Grammar School which provided a high quality frameworkfor future development and expansion.

Contributed significantly to business development, office identity and their international company marketing policy. Responsible for coordinating consultant information, producing and submitting a detailed design report for a AU$110,000,000 mixed-use Government building. Additionally, utilised graphical design skills to compile a number of architectural competition entries and Expressions of Interest (EOI’s) in close collaboration with the directors.

Worked as a member of the Urban Regeneration Team on a number of different projects, from large scale city masterplanning to small housing developments and appraisals. Concentrated on conceptual design through to detailed design. Responsible for the production of schematic drawings, compilation of regular design reports, supporting illustrations and renders as well asa number of feasibility studies.
