Duties include installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining Windows and Linux servers, as well as the City’s Hyper-V and cloud environment. Maintaining network security through existing monitoring tools and researching and/or implementing new security and threat management tools. Testing and applying appropriate security and stability patches to the systems infrastructure. Duties included but were not limited to: designing, implementing, and maintaining software distribution processes across the Windows environment; installing, troubleshooting, and supporting network-served software packages in a large heterogeneous network of servers and desktop clients; configuring and managing anti-virus protection and policies for all Windows computer systems; as well as identifying and deploying security updates and patches.Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the WPI Windows infrastructure. Performed server administration duties in a systems administrator role including: deploying and configuring physical and virtual servers; managing user accounts; automating and documenting operational procedures; implementing and monitoring backup processes; and maintaining system security. Installed, distributed, packaged, and maintained software applications (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Matlab, and nearly 100 other software packages) for distribution to IT managed laboratories and user workstations across the Windows client environment. Provided technical support to Research Computing, lab managers, the Helpdesk and the Computer Shop as needed; evaluated new software and technologies for integration with the Windows environment; tested software for distribution via the current processes; and advised faculty, staff, and student users relative to the characteristics and uses of present and planned computers, peripheral hardware and software.
