My colleague Lou Marchesano and I consult with schools in the North American region on "Assessing for (Conceptual) Learning". This workshop brings together Lynn Erickson’s work on a 3-Dimensional Concept-Based Curriculum, Teaching for Understanding, Understanding by Design, and IB Curriculum Frameworks with practical applications for developing a curriculum framework that prepares students for their future in the 21st century. This session aligns with objectives of the Common Core State Standards as well as the framework of the IB continuum. Conceptual understanding requires different instructional practices as well as different grading and reporting structures. This workshop focuses on how school systems (districts or schools) can create a single, integrated system of instruction and assessment.
