Cotronix is a small company of just 4 engineers including myself. We offer contract services in embedded software, including complete solution development. Between us we can bank on over 100 person-years experience in the field.

Having worked with embedded software and DSP for most of my career, I have recently taken a very different direction. I'm now leading a team developing a toolkit for embedded developers. This includes an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) based on Visual Studio Code and coded in Typescript.

The "Ensigma" RPU (Radio Processing Unit) is a flexible engine for digitally processing radio signals for wireless communication systems: such as WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE, digital TV and digital radio. Multiple different standards can be supported on the same hardware, with just a change of software. It contains multiple programmable elements, including two unique and unconventional processors; together with a range of specialised hardware accelerators.Over 13 years at Imagination I have played a key role in developing the RPU and the DSP software that runs on it. My work has involved modelling and specifying new hardware, and leading design teams in developing software support for new digital TV standards. In my current position I lead a large team of engineers developing embedded DSP software for demodulating a range of different TV standards.

Hardware development and FPGA design in VHDL, for an MPEG-2 video codec. Latterly promoted to team leader for up to 6 engineers, interns and technicians.

Designing digital hardware and embedded software for high-end broadcast TV products.

Trained as a studio engineer working primarily at TV Centre, then moved (on attachment) to the BBC Research Department at Kingswood Warren, where I was involved in research into Phase Compensation motion estimation (later used by Snell & Wilcox in their standards converters).
