Editor, Digital Products - Seo/Content Strategist
Vancouver, Canada Area
Since 2007, my role at The Sun, and more recently at PNG, had been to transform the newsroom into an SEO-proficient, digitally innovative profit and content creation centre. I conceptualized and created online revenue projects, white label news sites, data journalism projects, strategized in the area of social media, and created niche microsites. I have trained The Province, The Vancouver Sun and PNG's Specialty Publications unit in search engine optimization and online best practices, social media excellence, blogging and traffic analysis. I have worked with ad sales and business development teams to bring all staff up to speed on online revenue potential, and conceptualized dozens of websites with a view to increasing revenue, including the TaiYangBao.ca Chinese language news website, VancouverDesi Indian news service, and VanSunSportsBlogs.com, which draws more traffic than any other Postmedia blog presence. I have created proprietary tools for the newsrooms to use in determining which stories are receiving early lift elsewhere and ways to ensure their version of those stories receive maximum uptake with readers. I have laid out successful standards in content packaging, updating, social media strategy and traffic retention that propelled The Sun from 7m page views monthly when I began to a high of 56m page views monthly three years later. I have enacted online strategies that tripled traffic to national niche sites (Driving, Househunting) that had never seen gains of any similar levels previously, I have launched data projects that received awards for excellence in multimedia and technology journalism, and my own writing has led the chain in terms of traffic numbers on a consistent basis, year over year.I can wrangle Omniture, Gomez, Spundge, Hootsuite, Chartbeat, Publishflow, Prezi, Photoshop, Outbrain, Textlinks, Wordpress, Saxotech, Southparc, Quark, Caspio, Google Analytics, Lyris, Strutta, Shopify, Storify, Ooyala, all forms of social media...
