I’ve been involved in infrastructure for a long time, initially with Bechtel in the UK and Middle East and then, from 2010-2018, with EY’s global infrastructure business, working with infrastructure clients in the Energy and Transport sectors. Increasingly over the years, my role has transitioned from helping my clients manage their commercial relationships, to more strategic work, helping them identify and adapt to emerging trends and technologies…most recently looking at how advances in mobility technologies will impact transportation infrastructure owners.I’m an environmentalist - Before joining the team at Bechtel I had completed a PhD in Biology and so have long been someone who is environmentally conscious and interested in reducing any adverse impacts we all have on the planet. It’s for this reason that in 2018, (with the support of my friends and colleagues at EY) I decided to jump at the opportunity to combine my infra and technology expertise with my environmental interests with Connected Kerb - To explain this further, our amazing charging units not only enable greater adoption of EVs…but in building each one, we divert 3.5 truck tyres from landfill!I joined Connected Kerb as the Head of Strategy, before (in 2019) moving into the role of CEO and am working to deploy a strategy that enables us to effectively roll out our charging system to as many urban residential areas in the UK as possible. We think charging needs to be cheap, convenient (recognising car usage profiles), open to everyone and low impact on our streets and the environment – and I’m confident that our solution can and will deliver against those goals. If you’d like to discuss what we do in more detail, speak about the sector trends we are analysing, or help us out, then please send me a note on LinkedIn as I’d love to chat.

Head Of StrategyConnected Kerb Nov 2018 - Nov 2019London, GbIn November I made the transition from a role as a Director at a Ernst and Young (a Big 4 Consultancy firm), to Connected Kerb, a start up bringing digitally enabled, environmentally friendly and low cost charging infrastructure to residential, workplace and long stay parking. This was a big leap, but one about which I’m hugely excited. At CKL, we think there is a need for a greater balance of charging options (Rapid, Fast and Trickle) that enables more widescale adoption of EVs across all regions of the UK and socio economic groups - particularly in urban areas where significant portions of the population reside, but where many don’t currently have the option to home charge. In future we think that super-fast chargers will be required for emergency charging or where users are traveling extremely long distances (though most (>80%) journeys are less than 30km), but aside from in those instances, we think that most people will charge their vehicles using on street trickle chargers - enabling vehicle to grid power trading and giving users greater convenience and access to cheaper power. Our goal is therefore to roll our smart, low environmental impact, charging system out at scale in residential streets and other car parking facilities - enabling residents and those parking easy access to charging and high speed WIFI.In October 2018, we won one of the Mayor of London’s Civic Innovation Awards and were confirmed as a strategic partner in three Innovate UK awards that mean we will be installing our smart technology in key borough councils within Greater London. Director - Capital ProjectsEy Aug 2016 - Nov 2018London, GbAs a Director in EYs global infrastructure practice I was responsible for the identification and development of new infrastructure business for the global and UK business (10m annual revenue target) in the public and private sectors. To deliver effectively, this role required a detailed knowledge of the infrastructure markets, but also, increasingly, an understanding of the impact of sector convergence on traditional infrastructure, driven by new/emerging technologies - for example Electric and Autonomous Vehicles or advances in 3D printing. Projects ranged from supporting the worlds largest project (in Kazakhstan), to my most recent project, where we are supporting one of the UKs largest infrastructure owners to develop a deliverable digital strategy which enables them to adapt to the disruption they currently face, as well as the disruption they expect to face in the coming years - Autonomous Vehicles, Electric Vehicles, Mobility as a Service etc. -
Advisory Oil & Gas Sector Resident - GlobalEy Jan 2014 - Aug 2016London, GbThe Sector Resident role was split into an internal (strategy) and an external (delivery) role:Internal role to develop and implement EY’s global Oil & Gas strategy to 2020 (organisation size of circa 10,000 people), covering go to market strategy, revenue targets, headcount/team growth, thought leadership and the development of key messages to the market/analyst community. This was an extremely interesting time to be in role as we had to deal with the downturn in Oil prices as well as significant market consolidation. To support our teams in adapting to these challenges, working with an external team, we developed and deployed an innovative simulation programme for all Managers and Senior Managers in EYs O&G sector (now replicated across all other sector teams within EY).External role as a face of EY strategy, leading EYs research into infrastructure development projects (authoring the Spotlight on Megaprojects series) and generating new Energy infrastructure sector business opportunities and leading engagements in developed (US, Russia, Norway etc.) and emerging markets (Guyana, West Africa etc.) -
