My particular area of expertise is Town and Country Planning. I have an Honours Degree in Town Planning and I am a full member of the Royal Town Planning Institute with over 30 years experience. My first job was a two year contract with the Ministry and Finance and Planning in Jamaica, fantastic experience (albeit I was robbed at knife point three times - an occupational hazard in that part of the world). This was followed by a three year contract as the Land Affairs and Planning Director for the Musandam Development Committee working in Oman. The later contract was during the first Gulf War between Iraq and Iran when tankers were being sunk in the Straits of Hormuz. My work involved town planning, surveying, major infrastructure works and resolving land disputes in remote villages in the mountains, occasionally with the help of a Skyvan full of paratroopers (a handy tool in the 'problem solving box').I am the founder and Executive Chairman of the Leith Planning Group, a Town Planning Consultancy with national and international clients, established in London in 1992. For many years I updated 'Planning Law Practice and Precedents' with Robert Turrall-Clarke (Planning Barrister) and for over ten years I was retained by DAC Beachcroft (solicitors). I have acted as an expert witness on several matters involving High Court litigation which are reported in the Journal of Planning and Environmental Law and recently published an article with Sasha White QC on Freedom of Information. I have also spoken on Five Live on Town and Country Planning.
