Experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer, focused on the fast-paced design of robotics and automation, as well as process development. 10+ years of fabricating and assembling my own prototypes, leading to very strong DFMA (design for manufacturing as assembly) skills. I prefer being able to throw ideas around in multi-disciplinary teams, but I can also be counted on to mange myself and work individually. My favorite part of the job is solving difficult problems with creative, detailed designs.With Cambridge Consultants, I worked with many teams across many medical device and diagnostics projects (20+). I was mechanical lead on several projects ranging from 4 person teams developing proof principal and proof of concept prototypes, up to 20+ member teams developing a large piece of cGMP process equipment. I also was mechanical lead for several years on a robotic foosball table that served as an AI/Machine Learning/Digital Twin testbed and tech demo.At Bio-Rad DBBC (originally GnuBIO), I developed a DNA sequencing instrument. The sequencer interfaced with a microfluidic consumable cartridge. For the instrument, I designed several motion axes for moving optical elements, and had many interfaces to the consumable, including the cartridge docking/locating mechanism, a number of thermal zones (Patent US9683792), pneumatic ports, and high-voltage electrical probes. The sequencer and consumable were on track to be FDA certified, so I have experienced a regulated environment. I also worked on several pieces of production automation equipment and their processes.Before Bio-Rad/GnuBIO, I worked at Formulatrix, and had a hand in nearly all of their protein crystallography/lab automation product line. This included a number of robotic imagers and liquid handling instruments. I was also able to visit our manufacturing facility in Indonesia multiple times, and went on several install and service calls.I have a strong IT background, and have been the SolidWorks administrator and “go-to-guy” at both of my previous positions. At Bio-Rad/GnuBIO I managed a custom document control system, which lead me to becoming proficient in Python and SolidWorks macro programming. I’ve been using Ubuntu Linux on my home computer since college (and Debian before Ubuntu existed).
