To create, lead, and manage all athletic performance strategies at Blackburn Rovers FC

The main focus of the role is to practically devise and deliver all physical performance and injury prevention sessions and ensure players are optimally prepared for match play. As a qualified strength and conditioning coach as well as a qualified sports yoga teacher a blend of mobility, injury prevention, and traditional strength conditioning methods are used throughout the program.

Scientific support is provided to young professional players typically aged 18-21. The areas of support provided are planning of the training process, screening & testing, analyzing players readiness to train, preparing players to train, warm-up & fitness practices during training, individual physical training, development of strength, power, and core control, recovery strategies, nutrition guidance, and goal setting. Support is also provided to medical staff with the rehabilitation of injured players. There is also a responsibility to guide innovation and research for the department. During this time 8 players have graduated from reserve level to play Premiership football.

Support was provided to senior sport science staff for the 1st team, reserve team, and academy. The main roles were to handle and analyse GPS and heart rate training data and provide feedback relating to the intensity of training. There was also a responsibility to explore and implement the use of these technologies and develop research presentations and papers relating to the field. Other roles was to ensure that nutritional strategies were followed and the delivery of the strength and conditioning program for the reserve team and academy.

This job was voluntary and was offered during a meeting relating to work that was being performed for the University. The duties were to evaluate the youth teams training sessions by using the Polar Team System Heart Rate data. Weekly & monthly reports were produced and fed back to the youth team manager, the data was used to provide an idea on training interventions and strategies that could improve the general process.
