I started at JD Williams as an apprentice serving a 4 year apprenticeship in Electrical Maintenance Engineering. After the 3 years of training I progressed into a full time roll as a Electrical Service Engineer, Within this roll I was responsible for the maintenance of a fully automated box storage warehouse. Looking after automated storage and retrieval robotic cranes, flatbed and vertical conveyor systems, compressors, Siemens PLC, barcode scanners and SCADA systems. After a year in this roll I progressed within the business to an Electrical Shift Engineer. This roll combined my previous roll and maintaining the rest of the site. The site consisted of lots of different machinery and processes from looking after the fire alarm system testing on a regular basis to fault finding and servicing the following: cross belt sortation (Crisplant & Beumer), automated packaging machines (including hanging garments), lifts, conveyors (flat and vertical) and high speed mailing machines.

At Ajax I started to serve a 3 year apprenticeship in fabrication and welding. I found the job interesting and challenging. I learned a lot of good skills in my time with the company. The company specialised in building product control machinery for the food & pharmaceuticals industry such as screw feed conveyors, lump breakers and different kinds of bespoke equipment. From receiving the engineering drawings to the product leaving site I was responsible for the whole job (project). From ordering parts to ensuring all deadlines and targets were met.
