Building data pipelines with Kedro that process IoT and simulation data, allowing for direct comparison of new production scheduling policies. Built a codebase and onboarded another developer, encouraging the use of better tools and practices. Implementing DevOps best practices like CI/CD and using Docker environments for development and testing. Raw and processed data are stored in an Azure Data Lake to enable the use of a single source of truth for both developers.Overhauled a customer wait time predictive model created by another developer. Drastically improved code quality and execution time. Went from two Jupyter Notebooks that looped over data frames to an organized repo using modules, functions, classes, and scikit-learn pipelines. While refactoring, found and fixed a source of data leakage; missing data was being imputed before splitting. Resulting model used Gradient Boosted Regression Trees and had improved accuracy over the client's data team's approach.Developed simulations to train deep reinforcement learning (DRL) agents to control production lines. DRL "brains" are trained using Microsoft Project Bonsai. I used Docker to run brains locally and evaluate their performance on the simulation as we developed a production control system to outperform the legacy system. Visualized streaming data with Azure Data Explorer.I trained logistic regression models to predict the probability of machine failure in the next time interval, to use as additional features describing the state for the DRL agent.Performs statistical data analysis of input data for simulations, as well as simulation output.I taught the official AnyLogic class for North America. Attendees learn the theory of discrete-event simulation, system dynamics, agent-based modeling, Java programming, and get hands-on experience with the AnyLogic software.

From the collective notes we took, I made 100+ Anki flashcards. What is Anki? Anki is a Spaced Repetition Software whose algorithm optimizes retention of learning material. I had never used it but knew its merits from the book "Ultralearning" by Scott Young. I convinced half of the class to use the Anki cards I made (the remainder studied with traditional flashcards or other methods). All who used the Anki method passed the exam on the first attempt.I graduated from Officer Candidate School but chose not to accept my commission. Over the 1.5 years it took to complete OCS, I discovered my love for programming and decided to focus my efforts on building my technical skills through graduate school. Despite not becoming an Army officer, completing OCS was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had. I grew as a leader, made great friends, and built on the resilience I've developed over a decade in the military. In short, OCS made me a better person.Making big career decisions isn't ever easy, but avoiding the pitfalls of the sunk cost fallacy can allow you to pivot to what most aligns with your interests.
