About Chris Sedenquist

Throughout my career I have worked in industries ranging from raw chemical manufacturers to finished consumer product applications. Much of my experience has revolved around coating and material development with heavy involvement in failure mode analysis, property optimization, test method development, data collection, statistical analysis, and communication of research results. While at Michigan Tech I took elective classes focusing on graduate-level applied mathamatics and polymer science which I wish to continue to develop and apply to my career. I also led an undergraduate research group where we studied molten polymer properties.I am looking ideally for a position that requires knowledge of polymer science or material science. My most successful and enjoyable projects have involved these topics, including failure mode analysis and investigation, test method development and reliability, in-depth statistical analysis, generation of technical recommendations, and communication of technical results to others. Most of my experience has involved lab to pilot scale development with some experience in commercialization and scale-up work. Should you have any questions for me, please reach out and I would be happy to speak with you!

Paint Engineer

Current

Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, United States

Engineering expert on powder paint coatings within Mercury Marine. Responsible for maintaining and updating engineering specifications that govern paint and coating properties, visual appearance, and process control parameters. I routinely conduct failure mode analysis on abnormal coating failures from parts internally and externally produced. Much of my time is spent consulting various groups on testing requirements and recommendations, root-cause investigations, and coating validation testing. Other responsibilities include hands-on testing of coatings for development and failure analysis, contributing to large scale lean six sigma projects, manufacturing optimization, external supplier qualifications, and long-term warranty failure analysis and reduction. Long-term objectives include finding and developing the next generation of paints and coatings to continue improving the corrosion resistance, durability, and visual appeal of Mercury's large assortment of boat engines.

Polyurethane R&D Engineering Intern

Adrian, Mi

Anderson Development Company is a polyurethane elastomer and acrylic powder manufacturer located in southern Michigan.I studied the effects of pre-stressing on the mechanical properties of polyurethane elastomers; particularly on compression set properties and tensile creep under constant load. I became well versed in; > Casting polyurethane systems of various chemistries and hardnesses > Shore hardness measurements > Mechanical testing of polyurethane tensile and tear properties via ASTM methods > Compression set testing via an adapted ASTM method (highly desired property by customers) > Precision cutting and grinding of polyurethane samples

Oshkosh, Wisconsin Area

I worked exclusively on Phase Change Material (PCM) applications while at Encapsys. My job scope was to develop a liquid polymer coating with PCM capsules that provided a cooling effect for mattress manufacturers. During that objective, I encountered many other projects such as; > Inventing a new coating process > Test method development > Test instrument design and qualification > Development of SOP's and User Manuals > Design of experiments > Data analysis, correlation, and presentation > Raw material screening and evaluation > New Product Prototyping

Crew Member

Culvers

Escanaba, Michigan

I worked in a large franchise fast-food kitchen setting as a "Crew Member." I had to conform to many strict health and cleanliness standards as well as maintain a high level of quality of product while being very fast and efficient. I quickly took on a leadership role in the kitchen guiding and teaching newer employees more efficient ways of performing common tasks. I had also suggested a new way of performing tasks to my managers and one of them is used over the old technique. While working, I continually tried to come up with easier, safer, and quicker ways of getting the same amount of work done while preserving quality and standards. I quickly became friends with many of the workers there and developed a good reputation for being a hard working and reliable employee.
