As Indigenous Regional Liaison Officer with the former Department of Communities and the current Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs (DATSIMA) I was responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies in communities across the vast and diverse North Queensland region. This included:• Developing a bi-monthly regional newsletter - Wadda Mooli• Preparing media releases• Ministerial speech writing• Coordinating regional community events• Supporting ministerial visits• Developing external and internal communication strategies• Developing community engagement strategies• Developing a wide range of communication materials• Copywriting• Photography• Marketing support

In July 2012, I was approached by James Cook University's School of Indigenous Australian Studies to work as a Casual Research Assistant on a book covering the annual Eddie Mabo Lectures. My duties under this role were:• Transcribing annual Eddie Mabo Lecture into identical format• Proof-reading and editing lecture transcriptions• Developing biographies for each of the lecture authors• Obtaining contact information and permissions from lecture authors for use of their work• Preparing documentation for approaching publishers to produce the book

In 2008 I was lucky enough to secure an exciting and dynamic position as the Australian Technical College - North Queensland's first Marketing and Communications Coordinator. After graduating from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Journalism (majoring in Communications), I was employed by Southern Cross Ten in Townsville as a Journalist/News Producer for the Cairns and Rockhampton news regions. My duties were:• Writing and sourcing regular news updates • Content uploading on online news resource• Preparing weekly community connect bulletin

While I completed my journalism studies at James Cook University, I was fortunate enough to pick up some casual work with the Herbert River Express in my home town of Ingham. This role gave me the opportunity to develop my news writing skills and learn more about the media industry. As a casual journalist with the Herbert River Express I was able to perform the following tasks:• Writing and sourcing news articles• Coordinating and preparing advertising features• Basic sub-editing• News and advertising photography
