The Director of Alpha Institute, a school for massage therapy and bodywork with a strong background in the eastern philosophical approach to medicine, wanted someone from the western school of thought to balance the curriculum. I had been teaching for a semester when I expressed my frustration that I was not able to answer my student's most burning question: "What does this have to do with massage therapy?" The director and I worked out a deal where for a year, we would trade salary for tuition, so for a period of time, my students were also my classmates. Going through the curriculum made me eligible for licensure in massage therapy, so I added another career.

Started as an entry-level technician, promoted to Chief Technologist in 1992, and promoted to Director in 1996.• Conducted evoked potential tests, routine and computerized EEGs, continuous EEG monitoring of epilepsy patients, cognitive testing, intraoperative monitoring, transcranial Doppler studies, and all advanced neurodiagnostic tests including neonates.• Supervised and trained a neurodiagnostic staff of five.• Established and wrote protocols for evoked potential testing.• Designed program and protocol for brain electrical activity mapping using the Nicolet® Pathfinder.®• Conducted tests to establish the database for evoked potential protocols, and programmed the Nicolet® Pathfinder® for automated acquisition of the data.• Helped establish and run the Learning and Memory Assessment Clinic.• Developed and implemented operating and capital budgets.
