Attend scenes as required and deliver all or part of a structured scene examination strategy (this could be any crime type where the examination requirements are within the competency requirements of the role or individual), where these requirements cannot be delivered, advise the instructing officer for the strategy to be re-evaluated.Provide specialist advice to colleagues and police officers on scene preservation.

As a Special Constable you have the same powers as a regular constable and are required to fulfil the role of a Police officer when on duty. We receive the same training, same personal safety equipment and have the same powers of arrests. We are not paid a wage, expect for expenses. As a Special Constable you can be put into any situation and expected to react professionally and ethically and using law and legislation to deal with a situation or person/s. Been a Special Constable has been an amazing experience for me. It has equipped me with such a large and broad range of skills that will stay with me for life. My current role sees me in a front public facing, very challenging, high pressure Police environment. I respond to all types of incidents reported by members of the public. One of the fundamental skills to my job is having the ability to communicate with a ride variety of people from all different backgrounds. I have strong interpersonal skills within my role as you need to lead from the front in order to obtain as much information out of a person reporting the offence as possible. Through my previous roles within South Yorkshire Police I have learnt numerous types communication skills and very strong interpersonal skills which set me out, above the rest. I pride myself on delivering the best possible service when interacting within the community I am serving, adopting a problem solving approach at all times. My job sees me dealing with angry, distraught, upset and frustrated members of the public. It is my job to quickly identify what my complainant is asking me and then deliver them a very high, bespoke level of customer service which manages not only their but the organisations expectations whilst working within the confines of the law. I have an up-to-date and in-depth understanding of all aspects of law and legislation to recognise criminal offences and to offer the correct advice when people ask me for advice on legal subjects. I deal with a complex range of criminal offences which include: sexual offences, assaults and wounding’s, theft, fraud, criminal damage, public order, harassment, welfare, safeguarding issues and the protection of children and vulnerable members of the community. It is my responsibility to obtain statements from the complainant and then seize any evidence relating to that offence. I will then make all efforts to fully investigate the matter to the point of finding a suspect. It has taken me years of learning and mentoring experienced professionals within my work place to competently undertake lengthy and complex criminal investigations.

My duties and responsibilities were initially attached to Barnsley Proactive CID office. I originally worked out of this department for a period of 6 months. I was tutored by highly experience Detectives regarding the processes of how to commence and conduct a thorough and precise criminal investigation. After 6 months been trained within CID, I was transferred to the Safer Neighbourhood Unit as Crime and Burglary investigator. This role saw me attending scenes of crime such as burglary dwelling, auto crime, criminal damage. When at the scene, I carry out a thorough investigation that involves assessing and evaluating the whole crime scene for any potential evidential value left by the offenders such as blood, clothing, fibres and fingerprints. If there are further witnesses to the crime, then it is also my responsibility to ensure statements are obtained. Once statements are obtained, an investigation process will then ensue whereby I will check the scene for any CCTV in that area. This is then checked thoroughly, and, if the CCTV footage harbours any evidential value, this is to be seized. Door to door enquiries will be completed within the locality, and again, if applicable statements will be obtained from any potential witness. After this, the Crime Recording Bureau will be contacted, and a crime report will be submitted in relation to the relevant offence. The complainant will then be offered comprehensive crime prevention advice. I will then liase with other partnership agencies on behalf of the complainant such victim support, Housing dept., DHSS in order to give comprehensive support to the them.

Shriegreen And Burngreave Safer Neighbourhood Team

This role involved me offering my local community high profile and high visibility policing. To be the “eyes and ears” for the Police, reporting back local intelligence, problem solving, tackling low-level crime, anti-social behaviour and quality of life issues. I had to attend key meetings within the community I served, giving feedback and monthly updates to local residents informing them of the good work that was being carried out by the SNT. Furthermore, to liaise and link in with partnership agencies and schools to tackle local and Policing priorities. I had powers within law to tackle low-level crimes and to specifically target anti-social behaviour.

This role involved me taking telephone calls and dealing with members of public and Police officers, creating crime reports in line with Home Office Counting Rules to correctly record crimes. One of my main roles was to provide a first point of contact for members of public, who had been victims of crime, and to provide re-assurance, adopting an understanding approach.

Main Street Police Station, Rotherham

My first role within South Yorkshire Police involved dealing with all the remand, summons and advice files, including witness and complainant statements that went through to Rotherham Magistrates Court from Rotherham Police station. I also interrogated the Police National Computer for suspect print outs and attach them to the relevant files at the request of Police Officers. This role gave me an in-depth knowledge into how the Criminal Justice System operated.
