Perceptive is the leading eClinical Technology provider to the pharmaceutical industry managing over 2000 clinical trials globally. In my current role I’m responsible for managing the software engineering department within Europe, India and North America. In total I am jointly responsible for around 100 Software Engineers worldwide. As an Associate Director I am ultimately responsible for managing up to 40 projects per month. Each project will range in value from $100,000 to $3M.My day to day role is the strategic planning of the department. Ensuring each of the projects under my control is on track, within budget and sufficiently resourced. Balancing the workload of over 90 software engineers to deliver 40 project builds per month (on an 8 week project build cycle) is very challenging and requires me to be highly organized and in constant communication with my teams. As I work in a competitive environment I am also tasked with planning for the future of the department. Our clients always want deliverables quicker and cheaper. My role is to work with internal departments on processes and tools that will enable us to become more efficient.As a senior manager I’m often required to provide expert advice to my team and the clinical team as well as attend bid defense meetings. I regularly attend and present at both internal and external client meetings here in the UK, throughout Europe and the United StatesWorking within the Pharmaceutical industry means that we are highly regulated. I have to follow and write many standard operating procedures as well as represent the department during client auditsI see myself as a proactive manager who embraces technology. I use my software engineering background to shape my department. I’m always striving to improve the technology we use in order to improve efficiency, cost, quality, and overheads.

As a Technical Project Manager I was responsible for the project management of up to 16 simultaneous projects. Along with the project management, I was line manager for 8 software engineers. My day to day tasks included people management, client liaisons, and working with a clinical project manager to ensure that the software was delivered on time and to a high standard.

I began working for Parexel after leaving university as a software engineer. My main responsibility was programming Interactive Voice Response Systems (IVRS) for phase 3 clinical trails. My job was to program the flow of the software through the IVR system, creating and managing database content and structure, generating fax, online, and e-mail reports and complete written testing. As a senior programmer I was also responsible for assisting in the design of projects, writing technical documentation, training, monitoring and reviewing the work of other software engineers within the team and setting a good example to others through work and the following of standard operating procedures.
