Our new Chief of Police reorganized our executive staff. I was transferred back to the role of a lieutenant. I asked to be assigned to patrol operations. My goal is to develop new officers based on the experience that I have gained from my more recent assignments. In this role, I manage day to day patrol operations as well as critical incidents.I continue to serve as the Axon project manager for the department. I am also one of the leaders for establishing the department's technology strategic plan. This includes a CAD/RMS upgrade, in car video upgrade, interview room upgrades, and a cell phone expansion for FirstNet.I also continue to serve as the LGBTQ liaison for the department. I serve as the department representative for the Denton County Behavioral Leadership Team through the United Way. This team is working to improve service and diversion from jail for the chronically mentally ill in our community.

I was promoted to Deputy Chief in July 2018. I became the Bureau Commander for the Investigation and Support Bureau. I was part of the transitional team that took over executive leadership of the department after the unexpected departure of our entire executive staff. I oversaw the Criminal Investigation Division which includes 1 lieutenant, 4 sergeants, 32 investigators, 2 non-sworn crime scene investigators, 2 non-sworn victim advocates, and a crime analyst. I also oversaw the Training Division which includes 1 lieutenant, 2 sergeants, and 5 officers. This unit operates a basic police academy, conducts in-service training, and recruits new employees. In addition I oversaw the Support Services Division consisting of 2 lieutenants, 1 sergeant, 3 officers, and 14 non-sworn employees. Thus group manages the department vehicle fleet, the jail, the property and evidence room, warrants and court room security, and internal affairs. I also oversaw the animal shelter which includes 14 non-sworn employees as well as a contracted doctor of veterinary medicine and 2 vet techs. The shelter has on on site spay and neuter clinic the perofroms over 3200 procedures annually.I manage technology trials, contracts, and acquisitions. I am a licensed instructor that specializes in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and mental health. I currently serve as the department liaison to Denton's LGBTQ+ community. I serve on the United Way behavioral health leadership team for jail diversion.

Lieutenant, Division Commander, Criminal Investigation Division

In May, I was chosen to transfer into the position of Deputy Division Commander, Criminal Investigations Bureau. I will be supervising 5 sergeants that oversee investigations in persons crime, child abuse, family violence, property crime, juvenile offenses, crime scene, and narcotics carried out by over 30 investigators. In addition, I will also oversee the school resource officers working middle and high school campuses within the city limits. I also have a non-sworn social worker to coordinate services with crime victims.I will also continue to retain some voluntary leadership assignments. I championed the department's adaptation of body worn cameras. This included product research, purchase justification documents for council, and writing the department policy. I will continue to manage the body worn camera program as well as the corresponding digital evidence management. The department is currently deploying the Taser Axon Flex camera system in conjunction with evidence.com.I continue to manage the department's Taser weapon program. This includes inventory management, new technology evaluation and adaptation, training, and policy adaptation. The department currently deploys the Taser X26 and the Taser X2. We are gradually phasing out the X26 in favor of the X2.I also continue to command the department's Hostage Negotiation Team. This includes managing critical incidents, equipment and response readiness, and training. My involvement in the Hostage Negotiation Team helped me develop a passion and expertise for law enforcement's response to people with mental illness. I enjoy partnering with providers and other entities involved in mental health services delivery.

I became an administrative lieutenant for the Operations Bureau in January 2014. This position includes supervising Denton Animal Services as well as overseeing the Animal Services budget of about $1 million dollars. The Denton Animal Shelter just opened a new state of the art $6.7 million dollar facility complete with an in-house vet clinic and surgery suite. I wrote the RFP documents for the DVM contract as well as the clinic restocking contracts. I will also supervise the department's public information officers and social media campaigns. I also supervise the Downtown officers. This is the entertainment district in Denton that has very unique problems compared to the rest of the city. It requires an intensive Community Policing focus. I also supervise the department's Power Shift. This unit is primarily tasked with covering the times of peak activity and work a non-traditional patrol schedule. I still continue as the manager for the department TASER program. This program inlcudes the migration to the X2 weapon system from the X26. Also, the department will be deploying body cameras that will fall under this program as well. I led the research and wrote the justification documentation that the department used to select and purchase body cameras. I continue as the commander of the department Hostage Negotiation Team.
