As our state’s signature literary event, the NC Book Festival provides a wide variety of audiences access to a diverse slate of local, national, and international writers and artists.Formerly hosted on a rotating basis by the libraries at NC State, UNC-CH, and Duke, the festival will now take place at venues throughout Raleigh, including Kings, Neptunes, HQ Raleigh, CAM Raleigh, Crank Arm Brewing, NC State University’s Hunt Library, Quail Ridge Books, So & So Books, and others.Co-directors Jason Jefferies, event coordinator for the most recent 2014 iteration of the Festival, and Chris Tonelli carry the festival forward as both an annual event and a quarterly Arts & Lecture series, beginning February 21-24 2019.Featuring readings, panels, demonstrations, and lectures from award winning presenters and performers, the festival will showcase both traditional and non-traditional genres such as comic books and graphic novels. This past year’s exciting lineup includes National Book Award winner William T. Vollmann, Sandra Cisneros, Hanif Abdurraqib, and many others.Another core element to the festival is the book fair. A platform for local presses, authors, and vendors, the book fair will foster an appreciation for, and a familiarity with, the people and organizations who advocate for the authors and artists we love and produce and distribute the work that is so important to our cultural lives.

Manage the policy functions and the external and internal relations of the Office of the Vice Provost and Director of the Libraries. This includes coordinating communication for the Director, including strategic reports, speeches, position statements, articles, opinion pieces, and other communiqués; independently researching and analyzing topics in librarianship and higher education for the Director; participating in administrative studies related to the planning and development of library programs; contributing to the preparation of grant proposals; and coordinating arrangements for visitors.

Plan, develop, and organize professional development opportunities for instructors in the program, and direct the North Carolina Symposium on Teaching Writing

Oversee two, two-week creative writing sessions, one for 4th-8th graders and one for 9th-12th graders. Schedule the summer weeks within the Wake County Public School System and NCSU schedules; secure locations for pick-up and drop-off, classrooms for the individual workshops, and venues for the session-ending readings/ celebrations; place advertisements for the programs; recruit alumni and new young writers; hire and oversee qualified teachers to staff the programs; organize two session-ending readings/celebrations; solicit distinguished speakers for those celebrations; and publish anthologies of student work for both sessions.

For three, 22-student sections per semester, develop syllabi, plan lessons, deliver lectures, lead class discussions, supervise group work, develop writing assignments, meet with students during office hours and by appointment, grade student assignments. For a group of 25-40 students, promoted, planned, booked, and executed a 4-week study abroad program to London and Paris, developed syllabi, planned lessons, delivered lectures, led group outings and tours, led class discussions, supervised group work, developed writing assignments, met with students during office hours and by appointment, graded student assignments.
