I’ve worked on Superhard materials for over a decade, along the path towards making new and novel superhard materials "useful". Undergrad and Graduate research provided both the empirical experience and the development of an analytical expertise to effectively explore the next-generation of materials. The fundamental research efforts on composition and structure have led enabled enabled commercialization, as SuperMetalix, Inc. and production of these novel, patented metal boride formulations known as Tetride™ to be put to use. Applications developed such as machine tool composites, super-abrasives, wear surfaces, and shielding. The experience in academia afforded delightful collaborations, numerous publications, and exceptional colleagues who have become lifelong friends. SuperMetalix, Inc. is the culmination of hard materials research combined with a drive towards useful application. In the day-to-day, progress may seem contrived or limited but taking a step back for the bigger picture, the development has been significant; however, there will always be more to do--as this is the nature of science.
