I approach my business career with the same mindset and skills I use as a mountain climber. I'm a driven person and like to challenge myself both professionally and personally. Whether trying to deliver the vision of my client in a timely and budget conscious way or reaching the summit of a mountain in the safest and most efficient manner, I use many of the same techniques. The first step to reaching new heights or exceeding client expectations is preparation, strategic planning resource management, and goal setting. When I managed a product launch for a major auto company I implemented daily meetings with operations, sales, and the customer to go over every detail of the event. Getting all the parties together we were able to keep within a planned budget and deadline and create the best experience for everyone involved. When faced with obstacles and unforeseen rough terrain, a outstanding manager and mountain climber needs to be adept at developing creative solutions to tough problems and able to thrive in challenging environments. On one occasion the freight for my customer's event was delayed which would have potentially cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost revenue. I was able to locally source through my connections what was needed in time to meet their ultimate goal and maximize the return on their investment.Of course, nobody gets to the top or realizes any level of success without a dynamic team. Building, leading, motivating and having the ability to identify peoples' skills and weaknesses is key to accomplishing whatever the goal may be. I've been able to put my know-how and expertise to use in varying environments from managing large scale events with hundreds of valued customers to guiding a group to the top of Mt Whitney.Having the ability to communicate in a clear, calm, and direct manner can be life and death on the mountain. In business I have found those same skills come in handy when interacting with employees and customers. Developing a process in which I contact all my customers in advance, while in progress, and after an event allows me to have the ability to gauge the clients needs and react appropriately. I have faced and overcome many challenges along the way and have learned valuable lessons through these experiences that enable me to thrive as a manger and mountaineer. I continue to enjoy the rewards that come with striving for new peaks both in and out of the office and am looking forward to my next adventure.
