Head of Technical Support and Consultancy within Cenex, the UK Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell technologies. Leading the team providing:- In-depth technological knowledge to Cenex’s low carbon vehicle and infrastructure programmes.- Delivering zero/low carbon vehicle technology trials across the UK.- Supporting public and private sector clients with strategic and fleet consultancy support- Leading and delivering a portfolio of publicly funded research and development projects. In addition to successful zero/low carbon vehicle and infrastructure projects, the team helped Cenex deliver analytical consultancy and modelling work examining the integration of a range of zero/low emission on and off road technologies from single fleet up to national level. The R&D activities helped progress the position of zero/low carbon vehicles, infrastructure and plant technologies in the UK, whilst the strategy support work had national impact. Active across a suite of zero/low carbon vehicle/infrastucutre/energy industry groups, participating in innovate UK actions, Auto Council working groups, Zemo, SMMT, the DfT HGV taskforce, ADBA transport working group and leading the Cenex interactions with academia.

Leading the SMMT work and UK automotive industry representation on; powertrain engineering, fuels, air quality and noise emissions across all automotive sectors. Key focus on emerging hydrogen, hybrid and electric vehicles. Industry facing work - Coordinating the UK automotive industry approach to evolving regulation in expert topic areas. Government facing work - All liaison with UKG and significant periods of work in Brussels at the European Commission and Geneva at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, developing EU and global legislation.

Chris led the engine simulation activity at Ricardo acting as a technical specialist to the global automotive industry, delivering technology solutions. Main tasks involved: Technical project management and project delivery. Technological innovation, the generation and exploitation of IPR. Generation of new business streams and revenue sources. Main areas of technical competence include: Engine design and development through simulation, providing solutions for enhanced performance, reduced emissions and improved fuel consumption. Vehicle and power train drive cycle simulation, including fuel consumption and emissions predictions. Thermodynamics, combustion, emissions, induction charging, fluid circuits and engine acoustics.

Chris undertook a full EITB approved engineering apprenticeship which included roles in all engineering and commercial departments within the business, plus part time ONC and HNC study.
