I've worked in and around the Education sector for 12+ years now. Starting as a trainee teacher on the Teach First programme in 2011, I developed my practice at Oasis Academy Shirley Park in Croydon, ending up as the Head of 6th Form on the SLT. The 6th Form posted the best progress scores in the borough in my final year, beating Whitgift private school down the road. Leading teams to improve the results year on year was an immensely difficult and satisfying experience, however, what I have missed most about teaching is supporting students with their day-to-day challenges. Since leaving teaching I have worked in EdTech startups, with a focus on neuroscience research that informs new learning practice. I have also spent time mentoring students and developing skills in this area, with accreditation through the EMCC.Breakthrough Approach is the culmination of years of research and developing my practice across numerous roles - it is my attempt to help change a traditional mindset and approach that continues to prioritise short-term academic results over student welfare and long-term skills development, so crucial when making the transition from education to work.
