In a 2015 New York Times interview, novelist Stephen King cited Willman’s 2005 book "Rednecks and Bluenecks: The Politics of Country Music" as one of his three favorite music-related books of all time. Willman has been seen as a pop culture expert on television shows ranging from E: The True Hollywood Story and Entertainment Tonight to the Bill O’Reilly, Joe Scarborough, and Anderson Cooper shows.
