I started my railway career in May 1989 with British Rail’s Red Star Parcel business as Area Red Star Manager, St Pancras. Since that initial appointment, as Area Red Star Manager I have worked in a variety of Operational and Commercial roles at Area and Headquarters level managing change through re-structuring and the privatisation process. During my tenure as Business Manager, Government Contracts I was privileged to have been a member of the United Kingdom Delegation attached to the Planning Board for Inland Surface Transport (PBIST) at NATO and was retained by PBIST until 2006 as a Railway Technical Expert. During this time I attended regular meetings at NATO Headquarters and NATO Transportation Seminars throughout Europe. I have consistently delivered against objectives succeeding in challenging environments and pushed the boundaries set. I have motivated and led teams towards team goals training and mentoring staff creating enthusiastic and dedicated teams. At Rail express systems (Res) I set up the rail operations team at the Princess Royal Distribution Centre from scratch, including recruitment, selection and trainingI have been part of project teams that have delivered significant change to the business and improved operations and financial performance. As part of the Red Star Outlet Strategy Team, using historical data and future projections, the trunk network was slimmed down, the number of outlets reduced and a new ‘contract’ set up with the relevant passenger sectors to run outlets on an ‘agency’ basis. The size and shape of the overnight trunk network was within my specific remit.I have initiated work streams in order to improve efficiency and understanding in business areas; re-working the international contracts, tariffs and pricing systems at EWS that allowed fellow team members and Senior Business Managers to see progress against revenue targets and produce four weekly and three monthly revenue forecasting.Specialties: I have worked with many of the significant rail industry customers; Ministry of Defence, Royal Mail, Corus, Foster Yeoman and the Hanson Group. As a result of my varied roles I have experience of working with express parcels and mails traffic, automotive, aggregates, metals and consumer goods. I have successfully forged working relationships with customers, suppliers and industry partners at all organisational levels.
