Summary:To supply engineering expertise and to organise and co-ordinate significant packages of work, ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and requirements.Responsibility for providing leadership to engineering activities.Responsibilities:- Ensure effective process governance in assigned areas, including developing the design of modifications and improvements to processes in accordance with relevant standards, best practice and developing needs.- Provide technical input to bids for new business to facilitate the successful conclusion of bids.- Develop and maintain engineering policies and standards (in a particular discipline) to ensure they are kept up-to-date.- Carry out technical analyses and investigations ( through leadership of a multi-skilled/disciplined project team) of complex problems, issues and opportunities to provide conclusions and implications.- Ensure that the business has the capability, skills, systems and tools to support business success both present and in the future. - Plan lead and control engineering processes and activities to ensure delivery to agreed business need.- Develop, maintain and control the technical interface to customers, suppliers and collaborators to ensure effective and swift resolution of technical issues and to deliver defined support and other contractual commitments to customers. - Manage assigned budgets, recruit, direct, lead, coach, develop and motivate staff to ensure the accountabilities of the unit are delivered and enable them to maximise their potential. - Maintain national and international industry and academic links in assigned technology areas, keeping aware of potential developments and developing proposals for their insertion where relevant to the business.
