I am a certified professional geologist with over eighteen years of experience as a mining geologist. Currently I am the Geology Program Supervisor of the H. R. Collins Laboratory & Repository, as well as the Economic geologist at the Ohio Geological Survey. I tabulate and generate the annual report on Ohio's Mineral Industries, as well as statewide coal resource estimations. Additionally, I conduct mapping and fieldwork across the state, visit mine sites to examine the geology, answer geologic or mining related questions from the public, and deliver presentations about Ohio's geology. When working in the private sector, I was the manager of the rock core lab at Cardno, where I oversaw evaluations for underground coal mining. I have worked on projects in the following areas: Appalachian, Arkoma, Black Warrior, Illinois, and Unita Basins, Australia, Czech Republic, and Colombia. Some of my duties included: mapping of coal seam deposits; determination of coal seam correlations; gamma/density geophysical log interpretation; analysis of coal quality and composition; preparing core hole geotechnical reports and coal seam reserve reports; training in proper geotechnical logging and drill core logging procedures; and management of multiyear exploration programs. I also performed field work consisting of: core drill rig management; drill site selection; management of field personnel; outcrop/mine measurement descriptions; coal seam descriptions and sampling; underground coal mine roof hazard mapping and evaluations; coal bed methane sampling and desorption; drill core logging and geotechnical drill core logging on exploration projects.> Investigated geological and geotechnical factors controlling mining conditions and productivity for surface, continuous, and longwall mine operations. Performed reserve evaluations of coal producers using standards of US Securities and Exchange Commission for public filings and financial due diligence.> Inspected and analyzed adverse geologic conditions in active underground coal mines which involved: structural faulting and fracturing; paleochannel scouring as well as diagenetic squeezing of coal seams; and hazardous stratigraphy involving rider coals and other weak strata.> Investigated factors controlling mining conditions for mine operations with complex in-seam partings, and rider and leader seam interaction in the roof and floor. Provided predictive mapping and geotechnical characterizations for critical roof and floor strata, which were instrumental in mine planning.
