I joined the Royal Navy in November 2008. After completing my initial military training at HMS RALIEGH, which took 9 weeks. I began my professional training at HMS SULTAN Royal Navy School of Engieering, after completing my 28 week course I had a basic understanding of internal combustion engines, gas turbines, propulsion and transmission systems, electrical generation and distribution, hydraulic systems, refridgeration systems, reverse osmosis plants and fuel systems. After leaving HMS SULTAN I joined my first ship to complete my training,I joined HMS ARK ROYAL an aircraft carrier based in Portsmouth, I was lucky enough to join while it was in dry dock, while preparing to go back to sea the engineers onboard were extremely busy and I could gain vital experience for my training. After a few weeks I completed my apprenticeship and gained an NVQ level 2 in marine engineering. I worked onboard till it was decommissioned in late 2010. While I was on board I worked in ventilation, propulsion and gas turbines, hydraulics, sewage treatment and Pipework. I also watch kept while onboard operating and surveilling all equipment onboard, and was trained in emergency breakdown procedures and firefighting on all the machinery. After the ship decommissioned I joined HMS EDINBURGH a type 42 destroyer, while on this ship I worked Diesel engines, refridgeration and air conditioning, fuel systems (diesel and aviation category), electrical and gas turbines. Again while I was on board I watch kept on all machinery, but I began to train less experianced people in watch keeping and maintaining equipment.
