I have been involved in almost all aspects of software development since the mid-1980s. I grew up in the software business and have studied the subject continuously as the industry has matured.I have managed teams of developers and served as primary architect of many business applications. The development platforms have been primarily based on Microsoft's .NET and SQL server but that is a point of pragmatism, not religion.I study and track new technologies for viable strategic directions and plan for future scenarios; designing "frameworks that outlive the components".In the field of HR it is interesting to see the possible convergence of traditional HR applications with corporate portals, social media, and recuitment.Day Job: Working at a start-up where I'm developing DevOps skills using Icinga, Graphite, Grafana, Pagerduty, Puppet, Ansible, AWS, Openstack, and Terraform to manage cloud based environments. Current responsibilities include the development of specialized Android apps which provide a UI for access to cryptographic devices, system deployments into AWS and Openstack, and designing server appliance prototypes using 3D printed components.Personal Projects: I am a Maker. In the last few years I've branched into development of home automation systems. I have developed a wireless sensor network using micro-computers (raspberry pi, beagle bone black) to provide gateway services (Node-red, MQTT, Graphite/Grafana, Rocket.Chat, Debian, Ubuntu). It uses what we know as The Internet of Things (#IOT) to access web services for logging and analyzing/charting the sensor data.Specialties/interests: technology strategies, software architecture, team management, wireless sensor networks, home automation, microcontroller development, sensor electronics, residential energy management, Android development...
