Senior Software DeveloperNavarik Apr 2014 - Jun 2020North Vancouver, British Columbia, CaNavarik provides SaaS-based solutions for its' clients in the oil-and-gas sector, that allows industry leaders to better track, and analyze their operational data on a global scale. The growing data platform leverages this information, aggregating across all customers, to provide the oil trading community with clean, accurate data that improves decision making globally.Initially hired on an eight month contract, I transitioned to a full-time position in January of 2015. I was hired to be part of a team whose job was to implement a new application for an exclusive new client. This application was built upon an existing custom-built PHP MVC framework powered by an Oracle database. -
Software EngineerLoupe / Shape Collage Jan 2012 - Jan 2014Toronto, On, CaCreated in 2007, Shape Collage is proprietary desktop software that allows users to generateunique collages using their personal digital photos. In August 2011, the team was apart of theGrowLab startup accelerator in Vancouver, where Loupe was created as a means of bringingShape Collage to the web.Coming into the company following GrowLab, I assumed responsibility and control of theexisting AWS server infrastructure. This entailed optimizing the existing servers, softwaremaintenance, and building and configuring new servers as web traffic grew.Prior to joining the team, collages were created anonymously within Loupe. In order to fostera community atmosphere, I built a user account system that was initially built around Facebookconnect. However, we began expanding it to other services, such as Google Drive and Dropbox. As all of these services use a form of OAuth (1.0a and 2.0), I created extensible libraries forinteracting with each service both for connecting and grabbing photos, making it easy to addextra services as necessary. In mid-2012, we began noticing a trend of low user return rates. To combat this andre-engage users, I built a mailing list service for delivering welcome messages, newsletters, etc.Included in this was a means of tracking email open and click-through rates. To minimize therisk of being marked as spam, it was necessary to setup proper DKIM and SPF DNS records. In the spring of 2013, we decided to begin offering monthly subscriptions in an effort tomonetize our Loupe user base. I built the back-end tools for interfacing with PayPal, allowingusers to either pay through PayPal's Express Checkout or by sending their credit cardinformation as a direct payment to PayPal. -
Chief Technology OfficerWhatimwear. In May 2009 - Dec 2011What I'm Wearin' was a fashion social network startup that allowed users to share and explorefashion from around the world. The concept of the application was to allow a user to take photosof themselves and tag articles of clothing. The idea being to build and connect unique fashioncommunities from around the world.I was responsible for developing the system from the ground up. The raw data was served from a Ruby on Rails REST API. The REST server communicated with a mobile application that was built using PhoneGap - a tool for building cross-platform web applications utilizing standard web technologies including HTML, JavaScript and CSS. -
Web Developer, Flyerland.Ca & Zip2Save.ComMetroland Media Group Ltd (Torstar) Oct 2009 - Nov 2010Flyerland.ca, and it's American sister site Zip2Save.com, was a site that allowed Canadianresidents to find flyers and coupons for various retailers online.I was hired to expand the service for measuring usage by users. This service was crucial tothe operation of the business, as retailer contracts were dependent upon the accuracy andtimeliness of the statistics we were tracking. The sales representatives needed to know suchthings as how many times a coupon was opened, or how many pages of a particular flyer wereviewed. Each metric was also attached to a particular geographical area, so that retailers couldmake better decisions as to which regions to run their flyers or coupons.

Qa/Programmer AnalystEmergis May 2007 - Apr 2008CaThis was a co-op position. Was responsible for testing three web-based applications that had been re-written using a combination of JSP, Struts, Hibernate, PL/SQL, webMethods, and a WebLogic back-end. These web-based applications had previously been written as standalone Visual Basic applications. The first project tested was released in two phases, with phase one seeing a scaled-back release. The second phase was released to all clients and included a web front-end. As QA lead for phase two of the release, the initiative was taken to develop a test plan in order to cover all possible testing scenarios. Each test case of the plan was entered into HP TestDirector; a management tool designed for tracking the progression of testing. The remaining two projects were of a smaller scale than the first project, however each was of a similar nature and employed the technology of the first. It was necessary to learn and use PL/SQL in order to accurately perform my testing duties for each of these projects.During spare time when not performing my duties as QA, I took the opportunity to learn each of the technologies employed by the company, namely JSP, Struts, Hibernate, webMethods, and WebLogic. -
Web DeveloperSpin Master Ltd. Jun 2006 - Aug 2006Toronto, Ontario, CaWorked as a summer co-op student, where I assumed responsibility for the existing employee intranet service. This service was built using Windows 2000 Server, IIS 5.1, SQL Server Server 2000 and ColdFusion 4.5.Time was divided between updating, correcting and improving existing modules, and designing and implementing new modules to be incorporated into the existing system. Requests for new features came directly from the users, with whom I was actively engaged with on a semi-daily basis. At the conclusion of the three month term, I was asked to come in one day a week to assist the new developer with the transition, answering any questions that arose over the course of the week. At this time I also became responsible for the building and deployment of the application on a new server employing Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0, SQL Server 2005, and ColdFusion MX 7.
