Over the summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Transportation Design Intern at Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc (VHB) in Atlanta, Georgia. Working as part of the Highway Design Team and in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Transportation, I was engaged with highway/roadway reconstruction projects across the state of Georgia. In this position, I utilized MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer to help create in-depth CAD redesigns of high-traffic intersections, roundabouts, and highways.Adhering to GDOT standards and specifications, my work included updating drainage systems and pipelines; creating typical sections of roadways to highlight variations in slope, indicate buffer zones/hinge points, and differentiate between urban and rural road situations; and compiling/labeling crucial roadway and landscape features for official GDOT construction documentation.

I had the opportunity to intern for WestRock's Packaging Machinery and Automation division in Atlanta, GA, and worked on designing technical drawings and work instructions for WestRock's next generation of packaging machinery. Utilizing software such as Creo to disassemble and manipulate CAD models, I created detailed views showcasing how various assemblies and subassemblies were interconnected for official company documentation.Outside of work instructions, I developed a deeper understanding of the background processes, planning, and manufacturing that goes into creating products for the food and beverage market through frequent collaboration with other WestRock teams. I also engaged with some of WestRock's Fortune 100 customers, such as Coca-Cola, during Factory Acceptance Testing visits.WestRock has helped foster my love for automation and emphasis on sustainability efforts, and has significantly increased communication, organization, and teamwork abilities.
