NAAN is a registered charity, national infrastructure, and membership body which protects the rights and welfare of children and vulnerable adults in police detention and voluntary interviews, by supporting and representing the work of appropriate adults in England and Wales.

Advising Home Office on changes to Police and Criminal Evidence Act and its Codes of Practice, with a specific focus on the impact on young and mentally vulnerable suspects.

Unlock is an independent, award-winning national charity, providing trusted information, advice and advocacy for people with criminal convictions.

This role combined line management with strategy development, financial management and fundraising, company secretary duties and trustee board support, external relations and an editorial role.Achievements included:-• Winner - The Guardian charity award• The development of a new five-year operating plan • Improved sustainability of the charity by developing new income streams and controlling costs • The Record on-line magazine for law-abiding people with convictions (http://www.the-record.org.uk/)

This role combined line management of an advice service with campaign leadership, research, external relations development, PR and media communications, and the development and delivery of training. Achievements included: -• The development of a national programme enabling people in prison in England and Wales to open a basic bank account before release, having secured the support of the British Bankers Association, retail bank CEOs, HM Treasury and Justice Ministers and officials• A programme of financial capability capacity building across prisons in England and Wales• The development of a panel of insurers to provide access to insurance for for people with past criminal convictions their families• Presenting at three main party conferences alongside Ministers/Shadows with the support of Citizens Advice• Securing positive coverage in six national and hundreds of local newspapers and websites, with multiple features in the Mail on Sunday. • Published research on financial exclusion in criminal justice in partnership with Prison Reform Trust
