About Chris Blanz

I believe that strong branding, with clean and efficient design, is essential for a successful and sustainable business. I've been lucky enough to receive some nice accolades, including 75+ American Advertising Federation Addy awards, 50+ American Graphic Design Awards, 5 AIGA CASE Awards, and a Telly while working with national brands like Band-Aid, ExxonMobil, MIT, The Washington Post, LEGO, and National Geographic. Lately, I've been focusing on brand strategy, customer engagement, and product development for smaller businesses and startups, designing websites and presentations that move, motivate, inspire, and teach. Way before the remote revolution, when everyone started using Zoom, I worked with teams across the U.S. and Europe. Occasionally, I'll take on projects that require a short drive, a quick flight, or a few days' stay to gather information, meet the team, and brainstorm a concept. However, I've proven that I am most productive when working from my small studio just outside of Nashville. My brain is wired to find order in chaos – call it a superpower if you like. I thrive when presented with a problem to solve and love a good challenge. How can I help you?

    Ux/Ui & Product Designer | Webflow Developer
    Chrisblanz.Com Sep 2013 - Present
As a UX/UI & Product Designer and Webflow Developer, I help business leaders create user-friendly web experiences that guide, educate, and inspire. I look at the user experience (UX) as the entire user journey: from the first time someone discovers a brand to how they engage with the product, customer support, and how to keep them coming back. I see user interface (UI) as more than colors, typefaces, and buttons. Sometimes, it's the only real connection people have with a company. So, while websites and products need to attract and introduce new users, it is just as important that they retain regular visitors. Webflow has become my go-to platform for website development. As a designer, it gives me the freedom and flexibility to design and build powerful, pixel-perfect, responsive websites without needing a big team of developers. Dynamic sites with thousands of virtual pages served from database-driven content. Bonus... they make it easy to allow clients to maintain that content without me having to make changes. (Of course, when coding an actual product, I leave that to the pros.)Portfolio of work: www.chrisblanz.com
  • Perception Health
    Senior User Interface Designer
    Perception Health Aug 2018 - Jul 2019
The project description was far more than UI. It included elements of Creative Direction, UX/UI Strategy, Product Design, Marketing Coordination, and Copywriting. At a few points, I was probably considered the defacto head of the mail room, with all of the trade show prep and shipping I was coordinating. I refined the company’s brand and the existing SaaS product identities as a one-person department. I also wrote new copy for all public-facing products and services and promotions for the web, print, and sales presentations. Product User Experience Enhancements—Working with internal developers, I designed a multiphased approach for enhancing the platform UX with small but tactical improvements to the user experience.
  • Phy
    Senior Product Designer
    Phy Sep 2013 - Jun 2018
    Nashville, Tn, Us
As co-founder, my primary focus was UX/UI Product Design for a product that helped users securely manage and remotely control Bluetooth, NFC, and QR touchpoints. These features became the base of our patents (us 9,629,064, us 10,104,515, us 10,375,060, and multiple others pending). Highlight: Hardware Product Design - Google featured my Bluetooth beacon hardware designs in several Physical Web promos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yaLPRgtlR0
  • Mōbls
    Product Designer
    Mōbls Apr 2012 - Sep 2013
After selling my agency (cabedge), I took this deep dive into product design and development, working closely with company leaders to discover product enhancement opportunities, then develop user-centric product development and customer engagement strategies. (Although the MōBLS name started as a mobile-tech concept, the meaning became more of a metaphor representing agility.)
  • Cabedge
    Chief Executive Officer
    Cabedge Apr 2001 - Apr 2012
I founded and served as CEO and Creative Director for a team of talented designers, writers, developers, and web strategists. Clients included national brands like Band-Aid, Cracker Barrel, ExxonMobil, Johnson & Johnson, Unilever, Rockwell Tools, The Washington Post, LEGO, National Geographic, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and others.Cabedge was featured twice in the Music City Future 50 Awards and named one of Nashville Business Journal's Best in Business for two consecutive years. One of the most fulfilling awards had to be when cabedge was honored as one of 2011's Best Places to Work from the Nashville Business Journal. We were recognized with 60+ American Advertising Federation awards (including a National Judge’s Choice Award in 2012), more than 50 American Graphic Design awards, 5 AIGA CASE Awards (including 2 “Best Of…” awards), and a Telly.
  • Weberize Inc.
    Creative Director
    Weberize Inc. Mar 2000 - Apr 2001
I recruited and managed a team of top-tier designers. Together, we designed attractive and informative web experiences in the days when Flash ruled the web.
  • Edgenet
    Senior User Interface Designer
    Edgenet Sep 1995 - Feb 1999
    Nashville, Tennessee, Us
After my company, The Creative Syndicate, merged with The Edge, I recruited and directed a brilliant team of designers. Together, we created some of the first websites for brands like Cracker Barrel, BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.), and the State of Tennessee. As our flagship product grew and became more technology-focused, I chose to leave and explore more design-related projects while retaining my shares of ownership in the company. In 2004, we sold this company to a New York investment firm.
  • The Creative Syndicate, Inc.
    Lead Designer
The Creative Syndicate, Inc. Aug 1994 - Sep 1995
As one of three founding partners, my specialty was print design, but I quickly learned the tech driving the early web. Our major accomplishment was being awarded the State of Tennessee’s first Internet design/development contract, which led to our merger with a team of rocket scientists from Arnold Air Force Base in Tullahoma, TN to form EdgeNet Media.
