Originally recruited to the Darlington Office of Thomson McLintock in 1981 I worked for them until I qualified in 1984 and then transferred to the Middlesbrough office of Peat Marwick to partipate in the Firms International Career Development Programme. Worked in New York from 1985 to 1987 before returning to Middlesbrough Office of the then merged KPMG. Became Senior Manager of the merged Middlesbrough / Darlington office in 1988.My involvement in and enjoyment of working with clients across a portfolio of activities was established at KPMG as was my very early involvement in the then developing area of 'Micro computers' (if you were capable of carrying them) and the access to more effective business planning these tools afforded.I think I built my first business plan using Microsoft Excel in 1989 for a client in the Building support industry.
