Pike Place Market

The Pike Place Market renovation was a historic public project and an outstanding learning experience in all aspects of managing a complicated commercial project with a multitude of stakeholders. It was my largest, most logistically challenging and technically interesting project to date. It included rigorous planning where I was fortunate to play a key role as project coordinator and engineer working with consultants and construction teams for major structural and public safety upgrades, complex excavations, unique MEP replacement, tenant improvements and mitigation as well as intricate site logistics. It was a massive study of upgrading structures and installing modern systems in historic commercial buildings using Lean management together with sustainable design and construction processes. The construction phase lasted three years at a site visited by more than 10 million people annually. Extensive coordination included developing processes to keep businesses open and events on schedule, along with communication to maintain public support. I was fortunate to work with extraordinary construction and design teams, resolve design and construction issues and communicate directly with stakeholders and the community.
