Senior Director, Algorithms And Software
Burlington, Massachusetts, Us
Helped spearhead a product development effort at Aware that went from exploratory R&D with virtually no revenue to a wide product line generating annual revenues in the millions. This new product category involved diagnosing, optimizing, and making predictions to improve the health and profitability of broadband communication networks. My role included the following:• Led a team of PhD and Masters-level engineers and computer scientists to develop core algorithms, software, and embedded firmware. Routinely wrote production code, developed embedded data collection firmware, and devised critical algorithms concurrently with leadership responsibilities.• Researched and developed machine learning and signal processing algorithms, including detection and identification of physical faults and interferers, prediction of data rates for both real and hypothetical scenarios, and joint optimization of multiple interfering communication links.• Instituted Agile development methods (e.g., Scrum and XP), which significantly increased transparency of projects to customers and internal product teams. Tracked productivity/success metrics for all projects. Instituted processes for software source code control, project documentation, code reviews, bug/feature tracking, regression testing, routine performance testing, continuous integration, and test-driven development. Served as the company’s first scrum master.• Largely responsible for winning a recurring multi-million-dollar contract to be a supplier of diagnostics technology to Alcatel, the world’s largest DSL equipment manufacturer at the time.• Promoted our technologies to international standards bodies and world-wide customer base through presentations and publications. Helped author the international standard for single-ended line testing, which has been used throughout the world to characterize wired communication channels.(additionally held title of Director, Algorithms and Software)
