My passion for Engineering started in my early teens whilst racing Karts; determined to stay on pace with the rest of the field, I learnt how to modify the engine during the race whilst understanding the limits of the engine. This in turn led to other aspects of the Kart setup off the track. To improve upon my Engineering profile I am a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE) and have gained an Incorporated Engineer status, with my current studies with the Open University I hope to achieve my goal of becoming a Chartered Engineer by the end of 2018.

Manufacturing EngineerEsterline Engineered Materials Jan 2013 - Feb 2015Stillington, North Yorkshire, EnglandOn commencing at Darchem I was assigned to the Standard Operations Team; the role involved the recording, authoring, improvement and implementation of a best work practice for any given operation conducted by the shop floor operators. This resulted in over 630 documents being produced during my time, which are then used as a refresher instruction for stranger/alien products, as well as instructional aid for new members of staff for runner and repeater documentation. After a reshuffle of the Business Improvement Team, I was assigned to leading the Standard Operations Team, involving the training of new members and the approval of documents authored by others. I was able to implement a standard working practice and file templates in order to bring a standard working flow and presentation to the documents, allowing for all upcoming Standard Operations to be produced free from the authors own formatting preferences. With the required Standard Operations nearing completion I have been given the additional responsibility of the Lead Manufacturing Engineer for one of our customers, namely MTU Aero Engines AG based in Germany. This role allows me to be the main point of contact for the Production Staff and other Aero structures Departments. Working with the Production Staff I am able to standardise the production methodology, improved the tooling and documentation, resulting in increased Right First Time and reduced time spent on individual operation, this in turn improved our profit margins.I am also working on a project to promote the use of another business unit's 3D printer, for printing low usage production tools, and to utilise the equipment to prove other more costly tools.I have recently joined the company committee, which involves a monthly meeting with a range of cross-functional employees, from Shop Floor Operators to Directors, striving to improve the communications and working environment for all employees and visitors. -
Compliance EngineerSabre Rail Sep 2010 - Dec 2012Newton AycliffeWithin my role I was responsible for leading the Dampers Product Group; this included monitoring the sections KPI’s, ensuring a quick response to Customer Warranty Claims and Returns, working with the OEM's and the Production Team to ensure the Engineering Instructions, Test Instructions, Work Instructions, and Parts Lists were written in a standard format that is clear and concise as well as a consistent terminology, and any training required for the Operators was carried out. Once a month I chaired an open cross-functional meeting to discuss any open issues that have occurred and to discuss an appropriate course of action to solving the issues. Other responsibilities I was tasked with include BOM Management using the Sage200 stock management system, updating and creating Technical Drawings for use by our internal manufacturing facilities as well as external manufacturers both foreign and domestic. When I first arrived at my new role I set the task of reviewing my sections documentation and operators, in order to learn the procedures and note areas of improvement, to which I found many inconsistencies of the working methods of the shop floor operators. One of the services that Sabre Rail provide is detailed and unbiased reports on the condition of products that have been overhauled by ourselves and by our competitors. This includes the external condition, internal condition of the components and the performance of the product. -
Lead Engineer (Graduate)Nissan Technical Center Europe Nov 2007 - Sep 2008Cranfield, BedfordshireAs my training progressed I was given the role of Lead Engineer for the new Qashqai trim - to problem solve issues that had a risen after the start of production. With the level of skill I proved during the management of the Qashqai I was given the additional responsibility of managing the Qashqai+2 trim. All together this gave me full design responsibility for 200+ parts, from problem identification, to countermeasure planning, organising testing for both environmental and manufacturing requirements, to issuing design releases and checking data sent back from the supplier. The Qashqai vehicle is produced in two global locations, in Sunderland UK and also Kyushu Japan, which gave me experience of working and social practices in differing cultures. As well as normal design work I had targets for cost reducing the parts, as well as generating ideas for other departments in cross-functional meetings, this was mainly aimed at reducing cost without compromising quality of the product unless benchmarking allowed it.While working within Nissan I also worked with colleagues in Japan, Spain, France, India, USA and other parts of the UK. -
Graduate TraineeNissan Technical Center Europe Sep 2006 - Oct 2007Cranfield, BedforshireI started at Nissan as a Graduate Trainee working within the Interior Trim Design department looking into the current and new or future technologies in materials and manufacture, providing support to current engineers on several platforms. As well as shadowing current Engineers on several vehicle platforms, I was given several parts to manage on my own but checked by my mentor before being fully signed off for manufacture.
